PART - D
The next section on your resume should be your Skills and Education Sections.
Your Education Section will help bridge the gap between any work experiences you may have had during school. This also quickly tells employers that you may be a recent graduate.
Note: As you progress in your career and have been out of school for 2+ years, you will want to move your education section to the bottom of your resume, as your professional experiences will outweigh your education.
Your Skills Section is a great place to have your industry keywords illustrated. The ATS can identify keywords needed from the job description and will help in your application process. This section can be filled in using the industry keywords collected during your job description searches.
Step 1: On your new resume template, please input as seen below:
Title of your Degree, School Name | Date of Graduation
On the next line you may put a Core Focus, Minor, and your GPA
Additional Option 1: In this section, you may also include your Virtual Internship
Additional Option 2: In this section you may also include any Certifications or Training relevant to the roles that you will be targeting.
Your Experience Section is where you get to shine and tell the story of your work, internship, and student project experiences.
Your Experience Section will be listed in order of the most recent experience and work backward (reverse chronological order) to provide the reader with the most relevant and timely information.
In order to build out your Experience Section, we need to begin with your most recent experiences.
Let’s start with your most recent internship:
1. What is the title of your current or most recent role or position?
2. What’s the company or client’s name/s?
3. What are the dates of the internship?
4. If you had to describe your main responsibilities, what would they be?
5. Have you saved the employer time or money?
If yes:
What did you do? Who did you collaborate with to do this, if anyone? Were there tools you utilized to create results?
6. Have you increased productivity, sales, profit etc?
If yes:
How did you do this, who did you work with to achieve this, and what was the outcome of your efforts?
7. Describe your team (who you worked with or who you supported) Either answer is great!
If yes:
Were you referred or recruited into this position? If so, can you describe it quickly?
8. Have you contributed in any way toward decreasing costs, expenses, labor, overhead or other areas of the business?
If yes:
Please detail some of these contributions as well as the big picture.
9. Have you set up something that has become a new process, model or benchmark?
If yes: Please describe the process, model or benchmark, and if you received accolades for anything, please elaborate.
Now, take this information and first input the Role title, Company and Dates. Underneath, you can detail out the overall responsibilities of the internship. Lastly, create one bullet for each project or impact you had during your internship experience. Use the above answers to fill in the bullets.
Note: Remember not to write with I or me, use verbs to start each bullet.
Example:
- Collaborated with senior leaders to develop a forecasting model to help the sales teams achieve their goals.
Repeat these questions for any paid work you may have obtained as well. Include retail jobs, hospitality, school (RA), and any other positions you may have held. You may also include board positions within fraternity and sorority groups.
Next you can include: School Projects
1. List the name of the project
2. School Name
3. Dates
4. Role on the team
5. What was the project scope of work?
6. How did you help your team achieve the outcome?
7. What was the outcome or outcomes?
Example:
Financial Modeling Project, University of Tennesee | Spring 2021
Led a student group of 10 through a financial modeling project, working with a small start up company to identify and correct their forecasting process.
Results: Identified new data that will help save the company over $10K in overhead within 6-months.
[Remember to put projects in order of date, most recent first]
During the application process, the goal is to stand out against all of the other candidates applying. We want you to look at yourself as a holistic, well-rounded professional with a ton of great assets to bring to the table for a firm or company.
This section should only be used on your resume if you have additional experiences such as volunteer work, you are a member of a professional or student group, or you have joined organizations that help grow you as a professional.
If you have all three, that's amazing! But if you only have one or two, it will still help you stand apart from others in the application process.
We have finally reached the last section of your resume!
This 'Extras' area can serve to list out volunteer work, associations and memberships. You may list as a header either Volunteer Work, Community Engagement, Memberships & Associations, depending on what experiences you are including.

Look through the below examples and organize the 'Extras' together. If you have multiple offices held in an organization, keep them together one after the other, listing the most recent to those in your past.
